"MAM's Contribution to
Water-Supply Scheme Is Unparalleled"

"Mata Amritanandamayi Math's contribution to the social water-supply scheme is unparalleled," said Kerala State Water Resource Minister Sri. M.K. Premachandran today.
"Water is essential for life, and there is no charitable act more important than the supplying of drinking water," said Premachandran. The minister was talking on the occasion of receiving Rs. 33 lakh from MAM for the sponsorship of the water-supply fees for the 7,100 families (19,000 people) living beneath the poverty line in Chavara and Panmana Panchayats, Kollam Dt. Also included among the 7,100 were the families of fishermen and those belonging to scheduled castes. The program involves the purification and distribution of water from the Shastamkotta Backwaters. |

The function was held at the Amritapuri Ashram in the presence of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. MAM Vice-Chairman Swami Amritaswarupananda presented the minister with the 33-lakh cheque.
In his speech, Premachandran also praised MAM's massive tsunami-relief work.
Panmana Panchayat President Smt. Asha Cheriyan and Chavara Panchayat President Sri. Tulasidharan Pillai both spoke on the occasion. Chavara Block Panchayat President B. Madhu and District Panchayat Member Advocate V.P. Sudhir Kumar also graced the occasion.
The function coincided with the conclusion of MAM's five-day-long Amritam '07 Personality Development Camp for 2,500 children. Premachandran distributed certificates of completion to the children upon the conclusion of his speech.
